How We Started
In the summer of 2006, a group of like-minded friends began discussing the challenges of global warming and the dangers of climate change. Rather than just TALK about it, they decided to start an organization to actually DO something about the issue. So, in September, the Sustainable Energy Alliance of Kennebunk (SEAK) was formed. The first event was a showing of Al Gore’s movie “An Inconvenient Truth” – an event that drew almost 400 people from Kennebunk and surrounding towns. Because of the interest shown by people from surrounding communities, the group decided to drop the “K” from the name and because the Sustainable Energy Alliance (SEA). The next challenge was to present The U.S. Mayors’ Climate Protection Agreement to the Kennebunk Board of Selectmen for their consideration. After the presentation on November 14, the Board voted unanimously to approve the Climate Protection Agreement and make Kennebunk a leader in the fight against global climate change. The founding members of SEA are: Jennifer Niese, Sassy Smallman, Robin Bartlett, Gregg Dinino, Bill Hetzel, Lynda Wilson-Dinino, and Rob Bartlett.

What We Do
The Sustainable Energy Alliance is a grassroots organization dedicated to combating global climate change by reducing our communities' reliance on fossil fuels through education, improved energy efficiency, and the increased use of renewable energy. Our projects focus on:
- educating people about how to reduce their use of energy from non-renewable resources like coal, gasoline, and fuel oil
- encouraging the kinds of real changes (both small and large) which, taken together, will reduce the emissions of global warming gases
